Easy How To Guide for Curls…

August 28, 2015

Curls and a braid tutorial hairtutorial1b

It’s no secret that if I could curl my hair all day everyday I would, in fact, I’ve always wanted to get a brazilian wavy hair treatment. Unfortunately my hair wouldn’t be very happy with me if I did that. This has been my go to curly look lately. It’s really easy to do, and great on second day hair.  It’s perfect since my little guy loves to pull my hair. This way he really only has one side that he can really yank on. J/K

Hair products needed for this tutorial

When my hairs damp I put a pea size amount of the Confixor from the middle of my hair down. Then I add one small pump of the It’s a 1o from my pony tail down. A little goes a long way on both of these products.  I blow dry my hair until its dry. Since I’m curling it I don’t do anything fancy when I’m blow drying it other than lift the hair so it doesn’t look stuck to my head.

Hair tools needed for curling tutorial

My hair tangles up really badly, and this wide tooth comb is one of my favorites. This red YS Parker comb has been with me since I use to be a colorist. It’s one of my favorite, and I reorder it whenever it looks too worn. These two clips are some of my favorites.

Hair tools needed for fun side braid

For the fun side braid…smaller rubber bands, and bobby pins.

Hair Tutorial Step 1

Step 1 Combing my hair first is a must!! Otherwise I’m battling tangles left and right!! This isn’t technically a step, but I like to point out the obvious sometimes. Especially since I have baby fine hair. It tangles like no ones business.

Step 2 After you’ve combed your hair and section it off recomb each smaller subsection you’re going to curl.

Step 3 Curl your hair taking it away from your face. After each section is curled, spray it with Air Control from below. It makes a difference. I promise!!

Step 4 Back comb small sections upwards, then spray with Air Control, and repeat that section by section where you want some height and volume.

Lipstick break because curls are fun, and red lipstick is one of my faves!! Lasting Lust has been one of my faves for 5 years!!

Hair Tutorial Step 10

Step 5 Okay back on track!!! Curl the last section in the front. Spray with Air Control, then let your stand for a little bit so it can set. While the hairs setting it’s the perfect time to play peekaboo with my little guy.

Once I finished my braid I like to go back, and tweak the volume with a little extra back combing. Smooth it out, and then add two bobby pins to hold the braid in place.

Everyday Beauty Routine

August 21, 2015

I thought this was the perfect time to change it up a little, and share my everyday beauty routine. I love trying new products, but these are the products that have been on repeat in my routine for a long time. Let me first warn you that I make some of the oddest facial expressions while doing my makeup. So bare with me, and if you have any questions, I’m happy to answer whatever you have!!  I planned on sharing this closer to my last beauty post, but life had other plans. All the products I’m using were in my What’s In My Makeup Bag blog post. I always begin by prepping my skin with moisturizer, and then apply my favorite eye cream.  Even if I don’t wear makeup my full face these two products are always part of my morning and evening ritual. Then I add two of my favorite skin primers. I use the primer on my cheeks, and sometimes my nose. Then I use this on my forehead, and bridge of my nose. A little goes a long way with both of these so they will last a long time.

My Everyday Beauty Routine

I start my makeup with my eyes because it’s a lot easier to clean off excess eyeshadow if there is no foundation to work around. For my brows I use a MAC 266  and Espresso. I love that its angled, and gives a really precise application. Then I apply Painterly as a primer to my eye lids. I love that it stays on, and is super easy to apply.  Eyeshadows are one of my favorite things to collect. I can’t tell you how many I have on hand, but let’s just say I have a healthy collection. I really like applying eyeshadow to just my eyelids with a MAC 233. It holds the eyeshadow really well without leaving eyeshadow dust all over my face. The key with this brush is basically patting it on instead of sweeping it over your eyelid.

My Everyday Beauty Routine I apply Omega Matte in my crease. I go over the crease about a half dozen times trying to making sure to blend, and blend some more with a windshield wiper motion with my eyeshadow brush. I hope this makes sense. I also apply Embark on the outer crease of my eye in a half circle kind of motion. I use a really light touch when I do this.

My Everyday Beauty Routine I use Shroom in the inner corners of my eyes with this MAC 219. It helps to give me a little pick up , and help me look a little more fresh faced. When my eyeshadow is all done; I add my favorite Black Track. I’ve been using paint pot eyeliner for over 5 years with a MAC 266. It’s amazing and last for such a long time.

My Everyday Beauty Routine  I use my favorite NC25 underneath my eyes, on the bridge of my nose, and the inner edge between my eyes. With concealer under my eyes I always use my hands to blend. It’s a lot safer on that delicate skin.  Then it’s time for Natural 4. I love that it’s a stick foundation that’s easy to blend!! It lasts such a long time,  and is easy to take where ever I go. I use this MAC 187 which is really helpful when I’m trying to mask my large pores. This brush really does help with that!! I promise!!!

My Everyday Beauty Routine

Then it’s all about the highlighting and contouring. This is something I get better at each day hopefully because it’s all about practice, practice and practicing some more. I use this MAC 159 to contour because it’s really easy for me to control.

My Everyday Beauty Routine

Then I use Pinch me, that’s my favorite with this Mac 168. This brush is super soft, but is also makes applying my favorite blush really easy.

My Everyday Beauty Routine

Eye lashes that are longer and fuller are pretty much the holy grail to me. Since I wasn’t blessed with them I am thankful to have a little extra help from these products.  I’ve been using this Loreal Double Extend, and it’s been working really well so far. I use around 2 to 3 coats.  I like to change up my mascara every few months. I think my lashes get use to mascaras kind of like to shampoo for my hair. So Perversion has been my new favorite mascara for the last 6 months . It really helps to make them look longer and fuller. I apply around 3 to 4 coats.

My Everyday Beauty Routine

Last but not least it’s all about the lipstick and lipgloss. Creme cup is one of my favorite shades for pretty much any season. I love that it’s muted yet still bright pink. I know that probably doesn’t make any sense, but it really is both muted and bright. Then of course it is all about the gloss. I love Pretty Plush even though it does smell a little like Play Doh. It has been part of my beauty routine for the last 8+ years. I love that it’s not crazy expensive, and really gives that natural pop I love. That is pretty much my everyday routine with a few stops here and there to love on my new little man. I can’t believe he is officially 6 months old. Seriously where is the time going!!!

What’s in my makeup bag

June 17, 2015

Pretty In Her Pearls | Spring makeup routine

What’s in my makeup bag:

Last week, I shared what my skincare routine is for ‘Break Up With Your Makeup’ Campaign, so I thought today was the perfect time to share what’s in my makeup bag. You can read about my skincare routine here, and enter to win all the skincare goodies. Before I went on maternity leave, I had a few questions about my beauty routine. I thought this was the perfect time to share my favorite products for putting my face on (that sounds a little weird hmm) in the morning. These are my go to products that make getting ready go a little smoother. They can be a little pricey, but for the most part a little goes a long way. So most of them will last you a long time.

Pretty In Her Pearls | Spring makeup routinePrepping the skin:

These two Bobbi Brown products are my favorites!! I use them religiously every morning, and night. I can tell a huge difference underneath my eyes especially, if I don’t use the eye cream at night. It just makes the bags so much less noticeable. This is a must since I am keeping late hours with my little man. The moisturizer is amazing. My forehead gets super dry, and this has been my saving grace. It moisturizes without causing insane breakouts. Which is something I have to be really careful about.

Pretty In Her Pearls | Spring makeup routinePrimers and more:

Primers are what help to keep my makeup looking smooth. Since I have large pores these two are must haves for me. This one fills in the pores to give a more even skin texture; while this one helps absorb the oils in my skin. I only use the Smashbox Anti-shine on my forehead, nose, and a tiny bit on my chin. These are the areas that get really oily for me. These two goodies are my little secret weapon; especially on days where I am taking blog photos, or the obligatory selfie for Instagram. Which lets not kid is pretty much everyday. I love taking pictures with my little man!! I just found out Smashbox doesn’t make the anti-shine I love anymore, so I’ll be trying this one next time.

Pretty In Her Pearls | Spring makeup routineEyeshadows:

When I wear eyeshadow, I always begin with a primer. This one has been on repeat in my makeup bag for forever. I love that it really keeps my eyeshadow in place instead of letting the Texas heat and humidity melt them off. It’s a real thing here!! I promise!! I use darker eyeshadows in my crease. I’ll link them below. The key to making it work for spring/summer is starting out with just a small amount of color on your brush and building as you go. Then I add a little sparkle with Amber Lights eyeshadow on my lids. Y’all can definitely tell I have used this color for a while. It’s one of my favorites. On the inner corners of my eyes I apply Shroom . Doing this really helps to make me look refreshed and well rested. This is pretty much my daily routine.

Base, concealer, and higlighter:

I love this concealer. I discovered this one while watching two of my favorite makeup artist on Youtube. Their channel is called Pixiwoo. Check them out when you have the time. I use the concealer underneath my eyes, on the edges of my nose, where I sometimes battle redness. This base goes on really easily, and I apply it with this amazing brush. It’s another tool that helps me makes my pores a little less noticeable. This highlighter is one of my faves!! I use it on the bridge of my nose, forehead, cheeks, cupids bow, and chin. Basically, I use this where ever I can. It works really well, and gives a really pretty highlight without looking sparkly.

Blush and contour:

I know many people that have asked me ‘What’s Contouring, and Why Would I Want to do it?‘ Well, contouring is a technique I practice every single day. I love Gingerly for adding a subtle contour to my cheeks. I use this brush when I contour. It’s pretty much one of the most amazing brushes because it’s precise, and that is so important when you’re contouring. Otherwise it can turn out looking more like a bruise than great cheek bones. Blushes are my weakness, and Dame has been on repeat in my makeup bag for over a year!!!

Pretty In Her Pearls | Spring makeup routineEyelashes and more:

Since I wasn’t blessed with super long lashes like my husband, I use a few products to make them look longer and fuller. I tried using products like Xlash to try to extend my lashes and although I have found “fakies” to be easier to use, I will continue to try out products like these as the effects normally last longer and the product is therefore cheaper in the long run! An eyelash curler is a must!! This eyelash curler is from Sephora, and they have a whole line of them that are specifically made for your eye shape. I wasn’t sold st first, but since using it for a few months, I’m a believer. I use L’oreal mascara but, only the primer side/white side of the L’oreal mascara wand. It really helps add length and fullness to my lashes. If I’m going somewhere special I usually add two coats of it. Then I’ll apply my eyeliner. If y’all have haven’t tried MACS Paint Pots they are life changing, and you need to use this brush. It’s worth it to have one for your eyeliner, one for your eyebrows, and so worth the splurge. Your eyes will thank me. Then I use mascara, and average about two coats.

Lip color and nail polish:

Creme Cup lipstick is one of my favorites of all time!!! I wear it all the time with Posh It Up gloss. The gloss does smell a little like Play Doh, but it gives such a pretty sheen I can get passed the Play Doh smell. Mod Squad by Essie has been on repeat when I have the time to paint my nails. It’s a really pretty, famine, fun shade for spring.

In the next few weeks, I’ll share how I apply everything in my makeup bag. Don’t forget to enter the Cetaphil/Selfie stick giveaway!!! Thanks for reading, and I hope y’all have a fabulous day!!
